The Lego Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is one of the best Lego Technic Supercar ever released. By “Supercar” I mean “big car with several functions which replicates real ones”. Released in September 2016, this Porsche includes several functions, new parts, and several other cool stuff like a unique number or Porsche history guide. The vehicle is presented in a special box with black carbon pattern, sold 299$ or 299€ in Europe. The lower price constated was 229 on Amazon France website.
Dimensions and style
The Lego Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS measures 57 x 25 x 17 centimeters (22 x 10 x 7 inches), which represents 1:8 scale, and was developed in partnership with Porsche.
Body parts are very well represented, lots of details can be observed. For example, the front bumper is aggressive, with large openings and radiator imitation parts, like the real Porsche 911. Another very nice detail, the side air intakes are beautiful. On the real vehicle, these intakes allow cooling the engine (the Porsche 911 has the engine in rear position). Otherwise, the rear of the Lego Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is wider than the front, also like on the real car.
Regarding functions, there are no electric motor, no power functions elements and no pneumatic parts for his set.
All mechanical functions are done with worms/screws/gears or friction pins :
- Steering, from driver wheel
- Full independent suspensions
- Flat-6 cylinders motor, at the back of the car
- Rear wheel drive, with differential
- 4 speed sequential transmission
- Sequential transmission shift levers on steering wheel
- Opening doors
- Opening hood, with a small suitcase
- Opening trunk
Construction of this model is very instructive, even for kids if an adult supervises them. Regarding functions, the 4-speed transmission can be handled from the steering wheel, which is very cool even if sometimes friction appears. The only bad point is playability: it’s difficult to steer the front wheels or use the gearbox. The car is designed to be exposed and seen, not really “played”. It’s still a masterpiece in a Lego Technic fan collection.
The preliminary version
In early 2016 the preliminary black version of Lego Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS was visible in Toy Fair event. The model presented was black with some white stickers. This black version of the Porsche has never been available in stores.
The fake Lepin 20001
Lepin brand has replicated the Lego Technic 42056 Porsche 911, in orange color but also in green and white. The price is lower, but the quality is not as good as Lego. I strictly discourage you from buying counterfeit Lego toys for several reasons:
– First of all, it’s illegal. Customs will probably destroy your parcel.
– The security tests hasn’t been passed, materials are not as good as Lego.
– Some parts are often missing.
– The worker’s conditions may be poor or unacceptable.
If someone tries to sell you a Lego without “Lego” logo on bricks, it’s very probably a counterfeit. If you’re not sure, ask for the original instruction book: the Lego logo has to be printed clearly, not “Lepin” or “Lele” or whatever.
In few words, I strongly recommend you to buy only original Lego toys!
Previously, Lego has sold several big cars and “supercars” with realistic and several functions, like the Lego Technic 8448 Super Street Sensation or the legendary Lego Technic 8880, but none of them has the same complexity level, such features, or represent a real vehicle. The style is also really amazing, orange color suits perfectly. Even if some glitches appears (in sequential transmission especially), the Lego Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a masterpiece and a very good surprise. Now we’re waiting for the next Lego Technic supercar 🙂
